We will shortly be submitting a planning application to Waveney District Council for a new development just off Ellough Road in Beccles.
The proposals are for a sustainable new neighbourhood for Beccles and Worlingham of approximately 975 homes, including a proportion of ‘affordable’ homes and homes suitable for the elderly. We are also planning substantial new community facilities.
We plan to create a well-connected ‘green infrastructure’ with benefits to communities, wildlife and the wider environment. There will be ‘greenways’ to improve pedestrian and cycle routes, including links to Ellough Business Park, plus new playing fields and recreational spaces.
The plan includes new amenities which will significantly boost local facilities with benefits to both new and existing communities. They include a new supermarket and other shops which will help to reduce traffic travelling into the town centre via Ellough Road by providing these facilities locally.
The Southern Relief Road will provide an alternative route to Ellough Industrial Estate and will reduce the amount of traffic through the town centre. We will encourage walking and cycling by providing a high-quality environment. Onsite routes will link into the shared pedestrian and cycle footpath connecting Oak Lane and Cucumber Lane.
Our drainage strategy will ensure that there is no increased off-site flood risk, and we will ensure that appropriate ponds and swales allow for the drainage flows from the proposed development.
The development will help to stimulate economic growth in the area through the creation of new jobs both during and after construction, for example, at the neighbourhood centre.
