Prices vary from town to town across the county. For example, the average price paid for a house in Bourne is about £223,000. Horncastle and Louth are cheaper at £211,00 and £189,000 respectively – but desirable Stamford is far more expensive at £330,000.
If you are house-hunting for a bargain the best place to look is often the smaller towns and the villages. You don’t need to go far from the larger urban settlements, but new house prices can be substantially cheaper if you are prepared to move a few miles.

If you like antiques, Lincolnshire is the place for you. Websites dub the Lincolnshire town of Horncastle the "best antiques town" because of its abundance of antique shops – perfect to dress your new home in Lincolnshire. Stamford too has a wealth of small independent shops and boutiques.
Wherever you are in Lincolnshire you will find an excellent selection of tea rooms, restaurants and take-aways so if you don’t feel like cooking, you can take a trip into town and take your pick of places to eat.
The county enjoys a wealth of attractions including national nature reserves, historic buildings, seaside resorts, first class golf courses, sports amenities, museums, arts and cultural centres and shopping. Wherever you buy a new home in Lincolnshire you will not be stuck for things to do.
Transport in Lincolnshire
Lincolnshire is served by a network of A roads. The A15 runs North-South through the county joining the city of Lincoln with Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. The A16 links Grimsby in North Lincolnshire with Boston and Spalding while the A17 runs from Newark to Kings Lynn linking towns and villages across the county. The A52 links Boston with the coastal resort of Skegness. The A1 is within easy reach, to the West of the county.
The rail network provides main line access to London and the North via Grantham and there is a daily return service to Lincoln. There are cross-country services via Stamford and Peterborough which link Birmingham with Stansted Airport, the local starting point for many international journeys.
Lincolnshire is well-served by bus routes operated by (among others) Brylaine, Delaine and Centrebus. For the more energetic there are national cycle routes running through the county including a Sustrans route between Boston and Lincoln.
Education in Lincolnshire
Lincolnshire is one of the few English counties that operates the grammar school system with schools selecting pupils using the 11-plus exam. Many towns in Lincolnshire therefore have both comprehensive and grammar school options available.
Further and higher education is provided by colleges in many Lincolnshire towns and by two universities in Lincoln itself. The University of Lincoln and Universities in surrounding counties including the University of Nottingham, the University of Leicester, De Montford University Nottingham Trent and Loughborough are all in the Top 50 of the University League Tables.
Health services and amenities in Lincolnshire
There are four major hospitals within the county (Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby; Scunthorpe General Hospital, Boston Pilgrim Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital). There are also hospitals in Louth, Gainsborough, Grantham and Skegness. Stamford and Rutland Hospital is part of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which also includes Peterborough City Hospital.
